Rare Photographs of People Partying in Spiders Nightclub in Hull in the 1980s

A nostalgic collection of images of people partying in Spiders nightclub in Hull in the 1980s have been found in a cupboard. Hull born Andy Roe is the man behind the eclectic album, who recently developed the pictures from the original negatives he took during the era.

“I'm amazed because four days ago the negatives were in my cupboard - they hadn't seen the light of day for 20 or 30 years.” Andy told Hull Daily Mail. “There's some really stunning characters, they're very pantomime characters and I just thought it would be nice if I shared these so they're not just stuck in a cupboard forever.”
Renowned for playing a mix of punk, rock, Motown, indie and metal the nightclub has become one of Hull's most famous places on the alternative music scene.

From quiffs that rival Danny Zuko's to eyeliner that would champion the late David Bowie, in true Spiders style these pictures capture the eclectic mix of people and their retrospective fashions of the era.

“I don't know how people are dressing now in Spiders but it was very gothy, when I first went in 1982 there were a few punks but suddenly around 1984 there seemed to be a big shift towards goths and people wearing a lot of dark clothing, which is evident in the clothing.”
